Mud Artist Residency

Focusing on context of the site, the Artist Residency located in Rio de Janeiro Brazil aims to respond to the complexity of its surroundings as well as providing a community space for artists and locals alike.

The residency is almost entirely made from mud, one of the few truly sustainable building materials.

The proposed program encompasses a gradient of very public to very private spaces, calling for a range of architectural solutions dealing with the hot and humid climate of Rio de Janeiro, the need for natural light, the need for privacy or the desire to create a connection with the community.
